A slip has closed State Highway 3, north of New Plymouth.

According to the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency website, the slip is blocking both lanes of Mōkau Rd, near the Uruti Rd intersection.

There are no diversions in place and drivers have been asked to avoid the area or delay their travels.

The road is closed until further notice, according to the website.

Traffic is already backed up at least four kilometres on the northern side.
