A house fire has broken out on a south Auckland street, engulfing a property in flames.

The fire happened on Laurelia Place in Wiri shortly before 1pm.

A worker at the nearby Rata Vine Food Market said he could see fire coming out of the roof of one of the homes.

“There’s firetrucks on the street but I don’t know whether the street has been closed off at all.”

Daniel Nicholson, a spokesman for Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ), said it had received multiple calls to the fire at 12.53pm.

When firefighters arrived, the house was fully involved in fire. No one was home at the time, so everyone was accounted for, he said.

By about 1.30pm the fire had been extinguished and four crews from Manurewa, Ōtara and Papatoetoe were dampening down hot spots.

There was no indication at this stage where the fire started or how.
